Abstract
This research was designed to study the image that exists in Chile from Argentina and vice versa about “the other”, from border concept present in some of the textbooks used by students in Argentina and Chile in 2010. This was achieved by a discoursive analysis of the texts in question to identify the way in both states discussed the construction of Chilean-Argentinian border, as well as a comparative analysis of the maps offered in textbooks about that. The main results shows the persistence in Argentinian and Chilean textbooks of a nationalist discourse that aims to shows the “other” as an aggressor and withdrawing territories, leading to rethink the role of the teacher in teaching controversial topics, commitment and type of civic education which seeks to develop in both countries.
