THE ENQUIRY BASED APPROACH AS A TEACHING METHOD IN ENGLISH SCHOOLS

Abstract

To explain how the English school system is organised, which
policies rule it and how that is reflected in the teaching methodologies
used in the classrooms and particularly in the History subject is the main
focus of the present article.
Considering some class observation and lesson planning in state and private
schools in the city of Birmingham in England, plus the vision given by
a history teacher and trainer of future history teachers at the University
of Birmingham who knows the English system, it was possible to identify
as a predominant trend in teaching history the enquiry based approach.
The reason for this is the fact that this approach allows to develop in the
students a range of skills that will be fundamental for the students’ future
which is a logic that follows the guidelines of the public policy in England.
