HISPANIC TEACHERS AND STUDENTS FACING THE CHALLENGE OF LIVING IN DEMOCRACY

Abstract

The diverse conceptions that individuals have about living in
democracy and the concept of citizenship have a special influence on social
life. The new challenges of the 21st century, as multiculturalism or
active participation in public life through a prism of democratic progress,
is to reflect on how the process of teaching and learning these concepts is
being held in Spanish classrooms, especially in the field of social sciences,
traditionally responsible for educating on these issues. The present study
tries to shed a little light on what does history teacher in Spain, as well as
his students, think about civic education and democracy.
