CHALLENGES OF CIVIC AND ETHIC TRAINING IN HIGH SCHOOLS OF MEXICO. TEACHERS SAY WHAT?

Abstract

The subject civic and ethics education is the curricular space of the national order, that aims to contribute to the construction of citizenship in elementary and middle schools in Mexico. In this con- tribution a number of difficulties that appear daily in the development of the subject is exposed.

It deepens into some challenges alluded by those who teach courses in schools of a middle school level. The perspective of teachers stands out because they are responsible to specify the curriculum proposals. From their narratives it is possible to achieve an approach to the specific con- ditions in which educational processes to a large population of children and adolescents develop. These specific conditions do not necessarily relate to didactic issues.

Teachers pay more attention to the sociocultural and economic prob- lems of the environment in which adolescents develop. Teachers tend to pay more attention to various aspects of school organization and management. They also refer to the relationship with the educational authorities in specific situations. For teachers all extracurricular influ- ences mainly negative way in the formation process of the students. The results are from a larger study developed with teachers in the states of Quintana Roo and Guerrero (Chávez, 2015).
